What is THCA & What is THCA Flower?
THCA vs. THC - What's the Difference?
THCA (or Tetrahydrocannabinolic acid) is the main cannabinoid that the cannabis (or hemp) plant naturally produces. THCA is what makes your buds look frosty and sparkly, and this main cannabinoid plays a major role in the potency of your flower. When we talk about THC we are usually referring to Delta-9-THC. THCA converts to THC (or Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol) when heat is applied as you smoke or vape your THCA products. This is because heat makes the THCA molecule undergo a process called decarboxylation, where it loses its carboxyl group. THCA on its own is non-psychoactive and won't get you high, but THC (unlike THCA) has the ability to bind to brain receptors and cause those classic effects that cannabis is known for, like euphoria, relaxation and appetite stimulation.
Is THCA Fake Weed?
THCA flower is the same flower we've always loved and enjoyed. THCA is actually the most abundant natural cannabinoid found in most cannabis and hemp and is the precursor to the form of THC (Delta-9 THC) that gets you high. From Bob Marley to Cheech & Chong and Snoop Dogg, it's always been THCA.
Why Is It Called THCA Flower?
In 2018 congress passed the Farm Bill Act which made clear definitions, under the rule of federal law, what exactly classified a hemp plant as hemp and not cannabis. These new guidelines determined that any cannabis plant that tests below .3% in Delta-9 THC is classified as hemp and is federally legal to buy, sell and possess. We call these newly classified hemp products "THCA Flower" or "THCA Hemp Flower" to show that they follow these newly determined regulations. Some cannabis flower contains greater than .3% THC, but that's only because a small amount of the natural THCA has oxidized and converted to Dela-9 THC, which is something that can occur naturally after harvest during curing or processing.
